Ernest Logan says De Blasio has lost focus on students
So many different mandates have been thrown at these schools, he writes, that “all we have is a recipe for disaster.”
“This became a political mess, because the mayor made this his political thing.”
He added, “They’ve lost their focus on kids.”
In their efforts to turn schools around and evaluate Principals, CSA President Ernest Logan argues that Mayor De Blasio and Chancellor Fariña have lost their focus on kids, getting in the way of principals.
Logan’s argument is that the assessments on schools tie the hands of the people running those schools. He implies, too, that the coaches (retired principals assigned to advise current principals) have added to a culture of mistrust — instead of confidential advisors, these coaches have been instructed to report to the administration. In a climate where more principals than ever are under investigation, Logan vents his frustration that the people who have been given leadership roles are not allowed to actually lead.
In counter argument, Chancellor Fariña has stated that trust and autonomy have to be earned.
