Chalkbeat is reporting a ‘slew of departures’ at the Department of Education. Here are highlights and links to Geoff Decker’s post.
The Division of Teaching and Learning, a newly reconfigured office in the DOE under Chancellor Farina, has seen several high-profile departures.
When Deputy Chancellor Phil Weinberg announced the three latest moves this week, it meant that 5 of the 7 Division of Teaching and Learning leaders that he had helped install, had gone.
Weinberg also announced major revisions to the department: merging duties of some offices, and announcing that the leaders of teacher evaluation and accountability were leaving. You can read more here.
One rationale for the almost 100 managerial departures this year is “no clear vision.” Some cited declining morale.
Two big changes to the structure of the organization are designed to move the department away from “the accountability emphasis that characterized the Bloomberg administration.”
- Citywide Model Development – brings three offices together, headed by Alice Brown and Carol Yaffe.
- The new teacher evaluations plan now falls under Anna Commitante at the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and PD.
