Suffolk Administration Certification Instructor DeLuca
Dr. Deborah De Luca teaches in our Administration Certification program with the college of St. Rose, and is the Assistant Superintendent for the Rocky Point School District.
Dr. Deborah De Luca has taught for CITE, and The College of St. Rose, for more than 6 years. She teaches EDA 505 ~ Introduction to Education Leadership and Administration and loops with her students to EDA 590 ~ Critical Issues in Education. In addition, Dr. De Luca teaches EDA 503 ~ Leadership in Curriculum Development and Revision, and EDA 510 ~ Supervision.
Theory and practice
With 30 years of experience, she enjoys creating a bridge between theory and practice. The diversity of the students in the program reflects the diversity of the schools and school systems within the program. This leads to a deeper understanding of the complexities within a learning community. Working in a cohort model provides a wonderful opportunity for the professors and students to develop deep, meaningful, and lasting relationship.
Educational passion
Dr. De Luca’s educational passions and expertise lies in the areas of character education, social/emotional literacy, and in using “systems thinking” to create and nurture learning communities so that the school community can achieve their desired future and vision. Dr. De Luca has published articles and presented at conferences in the areas stated above and numerous conferences throughout the metropolitan area.
Education background
Dr. De Luca has a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY @ Fredonia in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Reading from CW Post Long Island University, Administrative Certificates and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Administration and Technology from Dowling College.
Career and Experience
Dr. De Luca spent most of her educational career in the William Floyd School District where she taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Fourth Grade. She later became an Assistant Principal and Principal of William Floyd Elementary School.
After leaving William Floyd, Dr. De Luca spent 3 years serving as the Assistant Superintendent for the Bellmore Public School District. Currently she is the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, Special Education and Athletics for the Rocky Point School District.
